Valse on Themes by Elgar (for violin and piano, compl. Polyblank)
~ Work
Annotation
Christopher Polyblank (Naxos 8.572643-45): "My recomposition of the Valse is based on a main theme by Edward Elgar, originally composed on Easter Sunday 1886. Apart from this theme, Elgar wrote the beginning of a bass line, and a further idea in quavers, which I have used as codetta. The sketches on which this Valse is based are to be found on manuscript pages bound into the back of a set of violin studies Elgar owned and used. These are now in the Elgar Birthplace Collection at Lower Broadheath near Worcester (E. B. MS.120, ref.1364)"
