the melody of "Love Me Tender" is virtually indistinguishable from Poulton's 1861 "Aura Lee", so Ken Darby could only be said to contribute the new lyrics to it. Presley and Darby's wife Vera Matson, were co-credited, Presley because of a royalty-sharing arrangement, and Matson because "she didn't write it either" according to Darby, half in jest, apparently in reference to the songwriting credit Presley received.
