Annotation
The liner notes to Dylan's first album indicate that the song "Highway 51" is by "C. Jones", separately identified as Curtis Jones. However, the official
Columbia website, as well as the bobdylan.com website, each credit "C. White" (what the 'C' is short for is unknown). To make it more complicated, *neither* of these is correct. The song Dylan arranged is actually "New Highway No. 51", by Tommy McClennan.
Dylan's version has four verses.
Verse 1: Identical to verse 1 of "New Highway No. 51".
Verse 2: New to this version of the song.
Verse 3: Adapted from verse 2 of "New Highway No. 51".
Verse 4: A repeat of verse 1 from "New Highway No. 51".
