Annotation
A quote from Lonelady.
A forlorn outskirt; a seance territory…
Two weeks ago I cemented an mp3 device into a patch of wasteground in Miles Platting, an outskirt of Manchester that has seeped into my psyche and my songs over the years.
Inside a piece of breezeblock, the device transmitted previously unreleased track ‘Little Fugue’ on a continuous loop. Recorded in the same sessions as ‘Hinterland’ (2015) yet reminding me of ‘Nerve Up’ with its haunted pop and brittle guitar, my paean to ‘nettled ground and dusk sites’ had finally found its home.
For two weeks Scrub sang on through subzero temperatures, snow and rain; but on March 5th fell silent, leaving behind its breezeblock host to fold into the entropy within the landscape it was mourning /celebrating.... now a dead transmitter, a spectre.
Many thanks to all who made the pilgrimage to plug in and listen. For those who weren’t able to make the journey, 'Little Fugue' is now available to download.
