70 Song Original Bluegrass Collection
~ Release by Various Artists (see all versions of this release, 2 available)
Annotation
From “The Early Rebel Recordings: 1962-1971” by The Country Gentlemen:
By 1965 Rebel Records had accumulated a sizable amount of material by a variety of artists. Some of the selections may have appeared on 45 rpm singles on the label. A lot of material had yet to be issued in any form. Dick Freeland put the masters to good use in preparing a 4 album package which contained 70 songs. Originally, only in paper sleeves.
From re-released 4xLP album back art:
The seventy recordings in this collection were some of the earliest made by the Rebel Recording Co. The 4-record set was offered over WWVA and other radio stations back in the early 1960s and was probably the first all-bluegrass radio offer, and one that introduced many people to bluegrass music. It contains some of the earliest recordings made by The Country Gentlemen, Buzz Busby, Earl Taylor, Red Allen & Frank Wakefield, and Bill Harrell among others, and is presented exactly as it first appeared more than 20 years ago, except for the addition of the box to hold the 4 records.
Rebel Records of Virginia is proud to make available once again this historic collection filled with lively Bluegrass performances by many of the great musicians of the early Washington D.C. Bluegrass scene.
