Netherlands-based, and Igloo favorite, Jeroen Bax (aka exm) is back again, this time with Modulus for another release on the Music for Macmillan Cancer Support Touched Music imprint. Bax has a knack for creating vast soundscapes, and Modulus delivers from all angles a diverse range of coherent electronic music to say the least.

His previous outings meshed with experimental sound design arenas, whereas Modulus paints a lush panoramic. Take “5” as an example, its nine and half minute duration isn’t overdone, offering a verdant clicks’n cuts landscape, and brittle melodic weaving between staccato beatwork—a brilliant foray into transportive electrical waves. “Ignatio” overflows with disjointed dribbling percussion, but also relies on atmospheric order to bring it all together. “Edit” drives rumbling bass to another plateau, shimmying through DSP-driven layers, minimized electro fragments are scattered about. The livelier “Octobre” maneuvers drums and a wash of seemingly improvised effects to the extreme as it pulls stuttered blips and bleeps carefully.
