Additional:
1998 Rhino reissue is supposed to "sound" exactly the same as the original 12"LP.
Two additional tracks were recorded during this session (Monk and the Nun & Just for You), which have been issued respectively in Twins (Atlantic SD 1588, SD 8810) and The Art of the Improvisers (Atlantic SD 1572), and also in a rare 8 tracks reissue of this (as Atlantic AMCY1008), apparently avalaible only from Japan.
Like all Atlantic material by Coleman, everything has been included in the excellent Beauty is a Rare Thing boxset.
Rumors of other editions circulate ("Rhino 19238" or "WEA/Warner 25109", 2006).
I suspect these not to be different editions, but different distributions circuits.
All in all, this boils down to:
- an original us LP release (1959)
- a us straight cd reissue (1993)
- a fr collector cd reissue with "original sound" (1998, snobs!)
- a japanese 20k remaster limited edition (1998)
- a "definitive" edition, remastered, after the publication of the anthology boxset (2005)
And of course the slightly offtopic japanese edition with 2 bonus tracks.
