Somewhere between London and Havana, volcanic activity has triggered the emergence of a new tropical island – Salsa con Soul. This is the eruption fans of Alex Wilson – the UK's top salsa/Latin jazz piano man and bandleader – have been waiting for. His sixth album, Salsa con Soul is simply the ultimate crossover dance music album of 2008.
In 2007, Wilson released his 5th album, Inglaterra. This was his first to feature the fire water of salsa dura neat and amounted to a declaration of war on the dance floor. Tracks like Show Me and a salsafied version of Chaka Khan's Ain't Nobody appeared on 10 compilations and are still burning up dance floors in salsa clubs across the globe. Salsa con Soul continues the assault, only this time the fires of soul and gospel bring a softer, more romantic vibe to balance the muscular, urgent yang drive of Cuban timba and salsa dura.
