Panther/Live
~ Release group by Marcus Miller
Annotation
This recording was out circa mid 1990's on the German Jazzdoor label. Jazzdoor published very design and extremely good unofficial soundboard recordings of jazz artists using the early 90s European copyright loopholes. They managed very well, moving their distribution from independent to the big companies allowing their CDs to be displayed on the high-street retailer in Europe, i.e. FNAC in France. When Panther/Live was displayed on the shelves of the FNAC Paris, Dreyfus Records - whom Marcus Miller was in contract with - sent an injunction to all FNAC outlets in order to remove them on the same day.
However, Jazzdoor re-released the album in 2004, possibly sanctioned by the artist. It is included in the discography on the artist's website.
Recording date and place
Recorded live in the USA, 1988 (printed on all known releases of this album)
IIt is not very likely that this album was recorded as early as 1988. The musicians and the setlist point more towards a time after the release of his 1993 album The Sun Don't Lie, from which many of the tracks played come from. Therefore, the specified location should also be considered questionable.
