1964-04-17: Revenge!, Salle Wagram, Paris, France
~ Release group by Charles Mingus
Annotation
Session info
This here is a complicated mess.
This is about the April 17 1964, Salle Wagram, Paris, France concert.
Unfortunately, this is very often mixed up with the April 19, Champs-Élysées concert, and most of the releases here either have misspellings, or completely wrong attributions.
Furthermore, "Meditations FCD 102" is actually different on CD and on Vinyl, swapping out Sophisticated Lady for Fables of Faubus.
Here is the most accurate track listing for this concert:
a. Sophisticated Lady 3:20
b. So Long Eric* 28:23/28:51
c. Meditations 22:30
d. Orange Was The Color Of Her Dress 11:35
e. Fables Of Faubus 24:53
f. Parkeriana 24:04/24:12
g. Peggy's Blue Skylight 12:50
Releases discrepancies
* e. possibly was edited down from the original tape at 35:00
* for b. and f. timings are not accurately shown on the sleeves, and are longer on the discs.
* Musidisc 500072 MU 763 and America AM 003-004-005 contain an edited version of b. while they mostly contain April 19 material
* b. is sometimes mis-titled as Goodbye Pork Pie Hat
Overview
FAT WARNING "Parkeriana" Jazz Roots CD 56047
Despite what the sleeve says, this one is from an unrelated concert.
Do NOT add back here, or merge in the records.
Revenge! (32002)
This is the official edition, and the reference nowadays, put out by Sue Mingus to counter the swarm of shit bootlegs of this.
It goes with g, d, c, e, b, f.
It does miss a.
Timings are accurate.
The Salle Wagram Complete Edition, Jazz Collectors JC 428
This is recent, probably a rip of Revenge.
This is a bootleg, and is not "complete".
It also misses a.
It goes with b, f, g, d, c, f.
Timings are about ok.
The rest of this release is completely unrelated (Chico Hamilton + Dolphy stuff).
Meditation FCD 102 (CD and Vinyl)
Cover art is an abstract painting.
This may or may not be legit.
The vinyl is possibly the first issue of this (1987).
It goes with g, d, c, a.
This is the only known release to have a.
Timings are about accurate, save a 20 seconds difference with a.
Interestingly, further CD reissues of this drop a in favor of e.
Live in Paris, Volume 2 FCD 110
Cover art is an abstract painting.
This may or may not be legit.
Continuation to the above, it has b and f.
Packaged with the other FCD (both vinyl and CD), it would still miss e.
Timings are about accurate.
Paris 1964, Volume 2, Charly
Straight rip of above FCD 110.
Paris 1964, Charly and Live in Paris, Charly
These are the same, from the same label, and are just a rip of Meditation FCD 102.
Goodbye Pork Pie Hat Jazz Hour JHR 73516
Some shady rip.
Allegedly published twice, 1989 and 1995.
This goes with d, e, b (mistitled as Goodbye Pork Pie Hat).
Timings are about accurate.
Goodbye Pork Pie Hat Eclipse Music Group 64074-2
Does not seem related to above, though it ships e and b (with the same mis-title).
Timings are about accurate.
