Recorded 1966, supposedly in July at The Club in Chicago (a reincarnation of the historic Club DeLisa), according to the liner notes of the original vinyl release. However, Blue Note discographer Michael Cuscuna has subsequently stated that the session was actually recorded in October before a live audience at a Capitol studio in Hollywood, and that the fictional recording information was published at Cannonball's request as a favor to the owners of the The Club.
