Classical Music Archives, formerly called PRS (that stands for its creator's initials), is a large classical music commercial website on Internet. It allows user to download classical music files they distribute and to read biographies of composers and artists.
The music is distributed as recordings but also as midi files. Ancient to modern serious music is represented.
It has more than 40K full-length classical music files by over 2000 composers.
People must register to listen to the music on the site. Non - paying users are allowed to access or download 5 MIDI or Free Play files a day. Suscribers pay a fee of 25 dollars a year for unlimited access. They are allowed to access or download 1,000 files per month or 100 files per day of any kind.
The classical archives began in 1994 by Pierre R. Schwob, in a then rather obscure world wide web.
Dr. Nolan Gasser is the site's artistic director. David A. Barg is the director of the learning center. The chief engineer of the site is Vladimir V. Volovich. Dimitri Stamitis is the director of web engineering.
