Haida Records grew out of people around the band Chilliwack and an association with A&M Records Canada.
According to Billboard Jul 22, 1972, pp76, Keith Lawrence (Chilliwack Manager) and Jerry Decoursicre of A&M Records founded Haida. However, some sources claim that Claire Lawrence (Chilliwack band member) started the label, for example this Hometown Band biography.
Billboard Sept 30, 1972 pp c10, c14 informs us that Claire has left Chilliwack to produce albums with his brother Keith at Haida. Another article in the same edition quotes Chilliwack front-man Bill Henderson as saying Chilliwack is looking for new members.
