Annotation
Universal Music Group has been known by its present name since December 9, 1996 after its parent company Seagram had acquired 80% of MCA including its music division MCA Music Entertainment Group and renamed the latter. But it was not until 1998, when Seagram also purchased PolyGram and merged it into UMG that the organization as it is known today was formed. Since 2000, UMG has been a unit of Vivendi, a global media and communications company. Its history is very complex, with many mergers, acquisitions, renamings and sell-offs. For instance, UMG owns the various branches of Mercury and Island Records. UMG's history, traced back to as early as 1898: http://www.universalmusic.com/company/history
The only releases that should be here are multi-label compilations where the logo says "UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP". All other releases should be assigned to the proper imprint/sub-label as it appears on the release in the form of a logo. Please read this How To and, more generally, the label documentation.
