Annotation
CBS/Sony was a label that was launched in 1968 by then-named CBS/Sony Records Inc., a 50/50 joint venture between CBS Inc. and Sony Corporation that was established on March 11, 1968. (This partnership was later to be renamed CBS/Sony Inc. in August 1973 and then CBS/Sony Group Inc. in August 1983.) In January 1988, after Sony acquired CBS Records and the half of CBS/Sony Group that it did not already own, the label became a wholly-owned Sony subsidiary, and in April 1991 the CBS/Sony imprint was renamed Sony Records (imprint owned today by Sony Music Records Inc., a unit of Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc.). CBS/Sony released its very first record under the imprint on August 21, 1968.
Beyond Japan, the label was also used in South Korea, Southeast Asia and Spain.
Renamed to: Sony Records (Japanese imprint)
