cimbasso (19th century bass trombone)

Description
Its name variously used to describe the serpentone, the ophicleide and the bombardon, the modern cimbasso was developed by instrument making firm Pelitti under instruction guidance by Verdi; it had a forward facing bell and 3 to 6 valves. The modern instrument has a characteristic bend.
