Formed in 2008 in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, The Soviets are an indie-rock band based in the North East of England. Influenced as much by cutting edge modern electronic music as by classic Indie sounds, The Soviets are currently following up on the success of their 2010 EP ‘Who We Are’ (described by London based promoters Bugbear as “Indie rock with a dark 80’s underbelly”) with their debut album ‘You Are Not the End of the World’ which is currently being recorded in time for an August release by dance producers Trafik (Global Underground).

The Soviets currently also have two completed music videos to their name, the first (for the single ‘The Waitress’) having been directed and shot by the acclaimed Toma Jablon (also responsible for the visuals on U2’s 360 tour). The video was shot across both Newcastle and New York and has enjoyed heavy rotation on a number of music television channels including NME TV. The second music video, for the the free-released single ‘All the People Want Is a Wage’ was unveiled earlier this year to impressive critical acclaim.

The Soviets are currently in the early stages of preparation for their 2011 UK tour in support of the new album, and have already confirmed slots at a number of UK festivals this summer such as Ignition (with the likes of Ocean Colour Scene, Echo and the Bunnymen and Little Comets) and Playfest (Alongside The Futureheads, Frank turner and many others.
