Shams group was established by Keikhosro Pournazeri's efforts in 1977. Its foundation was the first attempt to introduce Iranian Gnostis and mystic music and playing Tanbour in band in the world of Iranian proffesionals.
He invited some of his students who were famaliar with playing Tanbour and gradually, obtaining knowledge and experience in playing and playing in band, they became well known Tanbour players.
Intially, the group perfomed under the name of Tanbour-e-Shams but adding Traditional and Kordish music to their performances, they were published carrying the name of Shams Group. Shams band initiated in Kermanshah, followed recording and publishing their album, 'Sound of love word' lead to international halls and festivals.

The years of presentation have brought up more than fifty players and singers whom merely all of them were Pournazeri's students. After years of deprivation women as vocalists, setting double singers which made way for women to sing, Tanbour was accompanied by ladies for the first time.
Shams' music has been song so far with voice of singers such as Shahram Nazeri, Bijan Kamkar, Heshmatolah Alahnejad, Jalal Mohamadian, Morteza Sharifian, Najme Tajadod and Maryam Ebrahimpour.
Pournazeri's high proficiency and knowledge as one of the most exprienced artists in Iranian music, founder of Mystic music in proffesional performances, experience in studio recording acompanying Tahmores Pournazeri's innovations, expert and skilled Sohrab Pournazeri and other young players all in concert has built up a brand bew combition following the cultural and spritual genuineness of Iranian music.
Currently, Shams Group with 15 players and singers including ladies as one of their individual and distinguishing features present their performances.
