Annotation
"Trane was the father. Pharoah was the son. I was the holy ghost." (Albert Ayler)
Ayler indeed was one of the most brilliant saxophonist of the free jazz 60's era.
Most of his work was released by Debut, ESP and Impulse!, while a number of live sessions exist on random labels.
In 2004, Revenant issued a 10 cds box set containing most of his rare and unreleased material.
Curious people possibly want to start with Love Cry.
Ayler was found dead in the East River (NYC), circonstances remaining mysterious.
A collection of 13 novels on that subject has been published in 1996 by Gallimard, under the title Les 13 morts d'Albert Ayler (The Thirteen Deaths of Albert Ayler).
