The Arrows (70s UK glam rock band)

~ Group

Annotation

The Arrows were a band that existed in the mid seventies. They had chart hit singles with "my last night with you," "touch too much," and their best known song "I love rock n roll," a tune written by the band. They released only 6 singles in 4 years. The Arrows 3 hits were produced by Mickie Most on RAK Records. The band had a weekly television series on Granada/ITV in the UK for two full seasons in 1976-77. However, their hit records were released before their tv series ever started. They had no recordings released during the entire run of their two tv series due to a legal issue between their management and record label, a situation unique in popular music. The only band in history to have a tv series and no records released to capitalize on the situation. There was a book written about the band by Bill Harry on Everest books. Band members are Alan Merrill (lead vocals), Jake Hooker (guitar), Paul Varley (drums). In spite of their bad luck with the timing of their tv series and lack of record releases, the band at least later scored a major success when their song "I love rock n roll" was picked up by artists such as Joan Jett and Britney Spears, thus leaving an indelible footstep in the history of rock n roll.
