Gwendolyn Lee Zak is the lyricist for two well-known pagan songs, "Circles" and "I Am Lord." Her songs have been nominated three times for the Pegasus Award presented by the Ohio Valley Filk Fest, with "Circles" winning in 1996 in the category Best Spiritual Song. She is also the bass player in The Black Book Band (currently on hiatus). and has contributed backing vocals for albums by Kathy Mar. Gwen shared the 1994 Pegasus Award for Best Performer with her BBB bandmates--one of whom is her spouse, science fiction writer Michael Kube-McDowell. At times she has been credited as Gwen Zak or Gwen Moore.
