The Four Tophatters, named after the elegant Top Hat Club in Union City, NJ, where they first performed in 1946.
The quartet consisted of trumpeter Carmen Falconieri, bassist and vocalist Chet Grimes, accordionist Chet Lane and guitarist Pat Vassallo.
Trivia: They recorded "Dim, Dim the Lights" before Bill Haley & His Comets did. Unfortunately for the Tophatters the great success of Bill Haley's version released shortly after overshadowed theirs.
