Planet of the Stereos (Sydney, Australia) formed in March 2005. Previously known as The View, the band is a ubiquitous presence amongst Australia's east-coast indie scene, building a cult following with strong support from Australian nationwide commercial radio and television networks. Recently the group were voted the winners of a prominent Australia-wide unsigned artist competition. According to the band, the name change was triggered by a shift in musical direction, although there is some suggestion that there may have been legal reasons involved. It is thought that the new moniker was inspired by an album of the same name by the (now defunct) alternative-pop group Lo-Tel.
Notable support slots have included Switchfoot (USA), Hoobastank (USA), Kisschasy (AUS), Taxiride (AUS) and Brooke Fraser (NZ).
