Cash Brown

~ Artist

While so many rap artists today exist solely within the confines of the studio, while pursuing dubious careers in fashion, acting, and advertising outside it, there are some who remain true to the legacy of hip hop. These are the underground MCs and DJs, those who are seen and heard at house parties, small local clubs and venues, or on the streets downtown, flexing their skills and living the art for its own sake. One recognized element of this art is the cipher, a lineup of MCs flowing verse, most often freestyle, in turn one after the other.

Being a native of New York City (Harlem to be precise), the birthplace of hip hop, Cash Brown is no stranger to the cipher. Coming from a scene where MCs stay battle-ready in and out of the studio, with or without beats, Brown brings that trademark Big Apple braggadocio to Major League Entertainment's premier release. Joining Cash in this cipher (on tracks by M.L. technicians Nick Wiz and Domingo) are fellow denizens of the NYC underground Mike Zoot, P-Dap, and the princess, Precious Paris. This is a strong release from a city where the hip hop underground lives in the tall shadows of radio's homogenizing, commercial, mainstream dominance and the tired, tyranny of major label rap.
