Lyricist and singer Signe Gry Thorup (Denmark) joined forces with the London based drummer and producer Vesa Haapanen (Finland) and started collaborating in 2009.
As a former London resident, Signe is experienced on the UK club scene singing on live dj. sets, performing in various clubs and feat. vocalist on white label releases. Along side Leaving Atlantis she’s writing toplines for the EDM scene and various other projects.

Vesa is the main brain behind the instrumental production while Signe is the lush toned lyricist wrapping the perfect warmth around the package they together define as the sound of Leaving Atlantis. Vesa is also a professional session drummer recording and touring with live band Pest (Ninja Tune) and folk singer/songwriter Martin Newnham. He is also a percussionist, programmer/producer, writer, arranger and drum teacher.

They describe their sound as 'progressive-electro-acoustic pop' and are influenced by artists like Zero 7, Air, Bonobo, Massive Attack, Morcheeba. Tracy Thorne, Kate Bush and Björk to name a few.

Strange New World was recorded in both London, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Lapland and Zimbabwe and features among others: Wayne Urquhart (Damon Albarn, Bonobo, Roots Manuva, Moby & Mark Ronson), Andy Parkin (plays on the much raved Michael Kiwanuka album), Tom Marriott (Noel Gallagher) and James Towler - mIxing and mastering (rewarded sound engineer and working as FOH for Steve Winwood at Wincraft studios for 15 years.
