Annotation
|˟˟| (pronounced as 'gate') is a Tokyo-based noise/jazz project by Lajos Ishibashi-Brons. The project started as an experiment in solo improvisation on multiple instruments simultaneously. Aside from jazz and noise, important influences include industrial, drone, and Mongolian traditional music.
Some of the instruments used are built especially for this or for similar projects: an electric four-string instrument named 'sousen', which is used to create loops and rhythms with the help of a delay effect; an electric morin khuur, an adaptation of the Mongolian string instrument played (mostly) with a bow; and a converted radio, used mainly with a pitch shifter. Aside from these, two more conventional instruments - an electric guitar and a 7-string bass, and up to eight effect pedals (but usually far less) are used. Sousen and radio are almost always used, but additional instruments and effects change from session to session. All sessions are recorded as single track files (without overdubbing), and except for some fade-in and/or fade-out, no changes are made in post production.
