Originating from Kansas City, MO Sunset Black relocated to Minneapolis following high school and proceeded to take the local Minnesota scene by storm. Before long they were sharing the stage with the likes of Linkin Park and Kid Rock, not to mention winning a spotlight appearance at X-Fest put on by Minneapolis Rock Radio Station 93X. This turning point performance was witnessed by the band Nonpoint who quickly returned to Minneapolis with representatives from MCA Records and subsidiary label Bieler Bros Records. Less than a week following their meeting Sunset Black was offered a contract and soon began work on what would become their debut MCA Records/Bieler Bros Records LP, "Common Ground".
Follow the release of Common Ground on Aug.27th, 2002 Sunset Black hit the road on an 18 month stint of tour dates. Sunset Black spent many months touring with Nonpoint while also sharing the stage with Breaking Benjamin, Trapt, Hed(pe), Theory of a Deadman, and more.
During the tail end of 2003 MCA Records unexpectedly turned belly up, filing bankruptcy while Sunset Black was still involved in a massive touring campaign. This signaled the end of the tour for Sunset Black, and they were forced to return home to Minneapolis.
While a new record was in the works for the band, complications and a depressed industry took its toll on the members of Sunset Black. Before they were able to finish recording the new record, Sunset Black called it a day as the members each went their separate ways in search of new bands or new lives.
Although the record had not been completely recorded, drummer Jaime Gehly recently pieced together what demos and practice recordings he could muster up and has created a 'Demos and B-Sides' release that is now available at www.sunsetblack.com. Along with this is a Special Edition version of Common Ground with some added tracks and the full line of Sunset Black merchandise that is still available for any interested fans of the late rock band.
