Annotation

Spouse is an experimental rock band from the north-eastern United States. Inspired by legendary bands like The Clash, The Replacements, Pixies, and Pavement, Spouse make music that follows in a tradition of great songwriting while breaking new ground in sonic expression.

Similar to groups like The Magnetic Fields and The Flaming Lips, Spouse operates more like a project than a fixed roster band. José Ayerve has been leading and directing the band since its inception. Many musicians contribute to the project, creating a rich collage of talents and perspectives.

With the engineering and production help of Thom Monahan (Pernice Brothers / Lilys), Mark Alan Miller (J Mascis / Dar Williams), Adam Lasus (Helium / Yo La Tengo), and Elisha Weisner, Spouse have captured stunning recordings of their music over the years. 1999's 1 Marvel to DC and Focus were hits on college radio, making enough of a stir to have the song Superman featured on National Public Radio's This American Life. 2000's Nozomi was met with much critical acclaim and radio play, including six singles on renowned internet radio portal 3wk.com. 2003's Love Can't Save This Love broke into College Music Journal's top 200 through February and March 2003. A single for the hit song Catch-22 was released in February 2004, and the much anticipated new full-length album Are You Gonna Kiss or Wave Goodbye? was released in September 2004.

Spouse is a live act that cannot be missed. A fan noted on a message board once that Spouse is "the most frenetic and schizophrenic" band he's ever seen. Expect to see different musicians joining José on stage for concerts throughout the country.
