Short biography

Martin Castillo was born March 24, 1980 in Los Angeles, California, as Jose Martin Encinas Rodriguez, son of M. Jose Encinas Castillo and Ms. Ramona Rodriguez. Jose Encinas Castillo immigrated to Los Angeles from a small village near Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico and Ramona Rodriguez was born in Los Algodones, in Mexicali municipality, Baja California.
Martin Castillo as early as five years old, discovered his passion for singing and instruments, but started to learn music when he was ten years old. In 1992, he joined Banda Azpericueta, where he played the snares drums and performed for four years with the orchestra. In 1996, he became the drummer of the ‘Sueño Norteño’ band. In 1999, he created, along with his colleague and friend Regulo Cota, the successful duet “Los Dos Grandes de la Sierra”. He started his solo career in 2010. He may have changed his legal name as Jose Martin Encinas Castillo to avoid homonymy with some famous people.
