Steppenwolf ’97 (Fake Steppenwolf)

~ Group

Annotation

This is a fake Steppenwolf. The tracks were created by Danny McCulloch - one-time bassist with Eric Burdon & The Animals - in the mid-90s.

McCulloch also produced fake tracks from Mott the Hoople as well as the original Animals. After fans of the former alerted ex-singer Ian Hunter that tracks purporting to be him were being sold, Hunter sued K-Tel records (who had bought the tracks from McCulloch) and won.

However, many of the tracks had already been licensed on, and they sometimes crop up on various cheap compilations.

McCulloch's fake The Animals tracks have been gathered under McCulloch’s “The Animals”.

The Fake Mott the Hoople tracks do not appear to have been entered into MB.

In 2009 the Mott the Hoople and Steppenwolf tracks were official released as covers on iTunes under the artist name The Trybe.
