Born in Brooklyn, Tintweiss studied bass with Steve Swallow, "Gary Peacock" and David Izenzon and Jazz arranging with "John Carisi". Student of electronic music composition with "Hubert Howe" at Queens College, and "John Watts" at the New School for Social Research.
Performing during the 60's with the most enraged of the free jazz cats - from Jacques Courcil and Byard Lancaster to Frank Wright, "Burton Greene", "Patty Waters", "Charles Brackeen" and Marzette Watts - Albert Ayler called him for the 70 France trip.
He led his own outdoor bands the "Purple Why" and Spacelight Band spanning forty years. Steve currently works on his extensive archives spanning 50 years of audio recordings, video and music manuscripts.
