This release appears to have the track listing of later "The Wayward Bus / Distant Plastic Trees" releases, but is only labeled "The Wayward Bus". It is not clear if there was ever a release without the "Distant Plastic Trees" tracks, as my copy of this album includes a letter apparently addressed from PoPuP Records (and signed with a post-script by "Claudia", likely The Magnetic Fields' manager and drummer, Claudia Gonson) mentioning that "The Magnetic Fields' new CD, 'The Wayward Bus', on PoPuP Records, combines 10 songs from 'Distant Plastic Trees' with 10 new songs."

The letter also makes note of the release of "100,000 Fireflies" on the SpinArt compilation "One Last Kiss" in May 1992, suggesting that the release of this record occurred in the second half of 1992.
