This is the original edition (without additional track #8) of one of the Impulse! Mingus records.
Following The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady, it's almost (ignoring Mingus Plays Piano) the last Mingus studio record before the death of Dolphy and the silence period that lasted until 1970.
Not only this record revisits the best Mingus tunes, but the men in charge here are among the finest musicians of the time, namely Dolphy, Byard, and of course Mingus himself, taking a look back at the first part of his career - not to mention the faithfull Dannie Richmond, the blowing Booker Ervin, Richard Williams, or Jerome Richardson.
Excellent beginners buy, absolument nécessaire for the others.

I X Love is Duke's Choice
Theme For Lester Young is Goodbye Pork Pie Hat
