Rex Hollywood (40s Los Angeles jazz label)

~ Label

Annotation

Initially named Metro Records (MGM threatened to sue), then Rex Hollywood, though later issues has the Rex word blackened out (again over a trademark conflict, Rappaport stating that he changed the name to "Rem").

The label recorded Mingus, Teddy Edwards, Roy Porte, Jay McShann, Illinois Jacquet, Sunny Bridges, Bob Anson, Johnny Barbera and Ray Vasquez.

Maurice Rappaport was a shady record seller who promised to pay royalties, but never did, before he eventually got arrested for tax evasion.
