Virgin Records Ltd. was a British company founded by Richard Branson and Nik Powell in 1972. It was sold to EMI in June 1992, and then merged with Capitol Records in 2006 to create Capitol Music Group. It still exists as an imprint of the Capital-EMI group.
Where possible, file UK/worldwide releases here, and US releases under Virgin America.
Other subsidiaries with separate pages on MBz include: Virgin TV, Virgin France, and national branches for Sweden, Germany, Greece etc.
Virgin UK releases tend to have CDV..., VSCD... or equivalent in their catalog numbers, VUS... is generally a Virgin Records America release. VT... releases are filed under the subsidiary Virgin TV.

Virgin Records is a British record label founded by English entrepreneur Richard Branson, Simon Draper, Nik Powell and Tom Newman in 1972. The company grew to be a worldwide music phenomenon, with platinum performers such as Roy Orbison, Devo, Genesis, Keith Richards, Janet Jackson, Culture Club, Simple Minds, Lenny Kravitz, The Smashing Pumpkins, Mike Oldfield, Spice Girls and more on their list of artists. It was later sold to Thorn EMI in 1992. Its American operations were merged with Capitol Records in 2007 to create the Capitol Music Group. Currently owned by Universal Music Group, UMG reorganized its British operations to create Virgin EMI Records on March 2013 which absorbed Mercury Records UK.
