TRM Collisions

Unfortunately the TRM generation algorithm can produce the same TRM for different tracks. This is referred to as a TRM collision.

With the increased popularity of MusicBrainz, the number of TRM collisions has dramatically increased, and as a result the effectiveness of TRM matching is reduced. This is therefore a CurrentProblem.

There are often too many possibilities for a user to reasonably choose. There's a mailing list discussion thread on this subject, as well as the related issue of LazyUsers MisTaggingTRMs.

Eventually, this problem may result in MusicBrainz GettingRidOfTRM.
