RjMunro proposed SurvivalOfTheFittest as a completely new ModerationSystem. The majority in the MailingList agreed that it is a good idea but it is unlikely that a major change like SurvivalOfTheFittest would ever get implemented.

Therefore

If we can think of easy ways to move towards it and each step is in itself an improvement then the process will always be improving. If the destination turns out not to be the SurvivalOfTheFittest system then no problem. It should still be better than where we are now.

AndyBaker proposed small evolutionary changes that improve the voting problem. These might be StepsTowardsSurvivalOfTheFittest. This kind of thing:

  • Step 1: The tagger presents open mods as well as the current data and asks 'Which one do you wish to use?'. If a mod is picked over the current data then that is taken as a yes vote. This Feature might be implemented in the PicardTagger which is already CurrentWork.

  • Step 2?: (if step 1 seems to work well) We preserve mod history even after voting is closed and display the last three changes to the user when tagging.

  • Step 3: Wiki style reversion of changes for mods.
