Status Of This Wiki
The MusicBrainzWiki is a constant work in progress. This page should inform you about what parts are stable/trustwothy and what parts are still under construction.
In a first step we have been working hard to RestructureTheWiki; that work is more or less finished. The Wiki still contains remainders of a BigMess, but the MusicBrainzWiki has become a valuable and useful resource to the community.
We have then started RestructuringTheDocumentation. In this process the docs from the main server have been copied into the wiki, updated and reorganized. We are still halfway in this process. This means that more and more parts of MusicBrainzDocumentation are more accurate in the wiki than on the MainSite!.
This has led us to a rather bold step: In the future we will base all documentaiton on the wiki. This concept is called WikiDocs. WikiDocs is CurrentWork as of June 2005. In the course of this work the wiki has been ported from UseMod to MoinMoin. The oldwiki is still accessible until the transition will be finished.

If you want to help along
You are welcome to help us. Please try to use GoodWikiStyle.
- This Wiki is a MediaWiki Wiki; there are good docs on the text formatting for adding links and styles when you edit pages on this Wiki.
- The sidebar at the left of every Wiki page can take you quickly to the WikiHome, show all RecentChanges, allows viewing and editing your UserPreferences and even shows a list of the last visited pages.
- You can also get recent changes to the wiki as an RSS feed or an Atom feed.
- Like many Wikis, we have a. WikiCategories and WikiCategoriesDiscussion are devoted to anything concerning categories.
- You can also see the complete TitleIndex, a list of pages that are not linked by any other page at OrphanedPages, a list of yet to be written pages at WantedPages and some other special indexes listed on SiteNavigation.
- We have a Sandbox if you just want to test something.
- If you don't know where to begin you can simply start at a RandomPage.
Cooperative "To Do List"
We use some special WikiNames to denote the status of a wiki page. This helps WikiZens to find places that need to be worked on by using the BackLinks of these pages:
- Pages that are labeled as NeedsIntertwingling need to be linked to from other pages, otherwise people cannot find them.
- Some pages are tagged as NeedsEditing or NeedsUpdating.
- Some pages do not link enough to other pages. They need MoreLinks.
- Useless or misnamed pages should be marked as CandidateForDeletion and later as DeletedPage to be removed automatically at a later date.
- A trick from other wikis is to finish questions with "please AnswerMe" so that people can find unanswered questions. Of course you should remove this link once you answered the question.
- You can also go "ToDo work on stuff marked ToDo"
- I believe ther are more of these WikiNames but I cannot think of them right now
- I'm going to add any pages I find with lists of stuff to do to-- MartinRudat 00:08, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Protection from Spammers
This Wiki has been spammed by robots. To prevent spamming, editing the Wiki requires you to login with the username and password given on the login dialog (currently both are mbwiki). No password is needed to read this Wiki. This doesn't block human spammers; to deal with those, all users are encouraged to DeleteSpam. Persistent offenders may be banned by IP address, but you'll have to ask one of the system administrators to do this for you (there is no way to do this via the web site). Read the AntiSpamFeatures for more details.
Problems with this Wiki
The list of OrphanedPages also show pages that redirect to other pages. Maybe those pages need a separate (automatically generated) list of RedirectedPages. --Zout
- Yes and additionally some pages do not list their BackLinks properly. An example of this BackLinkBug is AudioBookStyle, which is linked to by ProposedStyleGuideline, but does not appear to have any BackLinks. I noted this on /MoinMoinBugs/LinksWithTitlesNotIncludedInSearchResults which was the closest related bug I could find. --DonRedman
- This might have something to do with the fact that until just recently there also was a page called AudiobookStyle (notice the capitalization). --Zout
Also, SubPages like ModeratorLanguage/Dutch are shown on OrphanedPages. --Zout
