Remove Track Edit

This edit removes a Track notes from a Release release.

How to do it

  • The [WWW] Remove link beside a track on a Release page (or other pages where release details are displayed) takes you to a page where you can remove that track without affecting any other tracks on the release.

  • The [WWW] Edit All link on a Release page (or other pages where release details are displayed) takes you to a page where you can remove one or more tracks from a release by clicking the Remove icon remove-off for each. You can also renumber/resequence tracks (EditTrackNumberEdit), change their title (EditTrackNameEdit), time (EditTrackTimeEdit) of any or all tracks on the release.

Guidelines

Editing

Common reasons for using this edit include:

  • to revert damage caused by an incorrect AddTrackEdit, where another user has added a track trying to turn the release into a different version with different track listing than originally intended.

  • to split a MultiDiscRelease incorrectly added as a single disc into several discs (separate releases in MusicBrainz) where it is not available in a single disc format. This is common for vinyl releases, and CDs that came with a bonus disc.

  • to change a non-existent (fake or homebrew) release that has additional tracks added to match an official release so it can be merged to retain PUIDs and track identifiers. (See MergeRatherThanDelete and DeleteRatherThanMerge for guidelines on this case).

Voting

  • Voters should verify that the release does indeed not exist in its current form. It is incorrect to remove a track where a release is (for example) a bonus track version available in only some locations. Instead, a new release should be added with the reduced tracklist rather than trying to transform a valid existing release into a different one. Research should have been done by the original editor to give reasonable confidence a version with the existing tracklisting does not exist.

Notes

  • This edit cannot be performed when a release has a DiscID attached. If the DiscID is thought to be fake or homebrew, it should be removed with a RemoveDiscIDEdit prior to removing tracks. In such a case, it may be deemed that a full RemoveReleaseEdit should be performed.

  • Using the "Edit All" approach above, it is not possible to remove a track from the middle of a release without re-sequencing the tracks such that they are consecutive. Removing tracks from the middle of a release is unusual; and care should be taken. In such a case, it is likely PUIDs and TRMs on the release are incorrectly assigned, and it may make more sense to add a whole new release and remove the existing release as being unreliable and non-existent.

Prerequisites

None known.

Dependencies

A RemoveTrackEdit will fail due to a FailedDependency if the release fails addition, is removed by a RemoveReleaseEdit earlier than the RemoveTrackEdit passes, or if the release is merged into a different release.

Internal Errors

None known.
