Discussion of Quality And Quantity

This discussion is about QualityAndQuantity.

Wow, I am very much impressed. This proposal is simple and it really seems to addres the current problem.

As to transition: Maybe we could say that every item that has never been changed (ie. only one edit to it: the one that created it) should initially be 'open'. Whereas any item that has been changed should initially be 'locked'. Also while we are transitioning the 'unlock anything' edit should

  1. pass if noone votes at all.

  2. pass rather quickly.

Later we could change this behavior to a more restrictive one. --DonRedman

The specific rules about locking, and which types of locks control which types of edits, need to be made more explicit. For example, does an album lock only affect the album name, or does it also control add/delete track edits?

@alex

Also need: Add Album Release (should probably never be locked, not sure if we vote on these today)

I've written up a new, simpler, proposal to address some of the issues raised. Especially the points about which edits are affected, and what exactly is locked should be much clearer.

Strangely, there doesn't seem to be and 'Add Album Release', it is handled as a special case of 'Edit Album Release' AFAICS.

Could Various Artists albums not be automatically locked? From what I've seen, VA albums tend to have the most mistakes.
