Link Phrases

  • forward: release A is/may be part of a set, the next disc in the set is release B
  • reverse: release B is part of a set, the previous disc in the set is release A

Description: Indicates that a disc is part of a release which contains one or more other discs.

Description

This AdvancedRelationshipType indicates that two releases are part of a set. A set is a single release which contains multiple discs or other media, which are entered into musicbrainz as separate releases. The actual release could be an album with one or more bonus discs, or a boxset containing any number of discs.

If the first disc in this relationship is available separately without the second disc, the second disc is a bonus disc. A checkbox is used to indicate whether the second disc is a bonus disc.

NOTE: Please link the discs of a set to each other in sequence. Do NOT link all of them to the first disc.

Relationship Attributes

The AR will indicate that the two discs are not available separately, unless the bonus disc checkbox is used.

Examples

Leftism (an album by Leftfield) has a bonus disc in some releases.

Der Ring des Nibelungen is a cycle of four epic music dramas. With a total length of about 15 hours, it is usually released as a box set containing 14 discs.

When not to use

  • When a bonus disc is also available separately under its own title but has not been duplicated due to reasons outlined at WhatDefinesAUniqueRelease. (This is for technical reasons; the AdvancedRelationship does not make sense in such a case)
  • For "single sets"; commonly found in the United Kingdom. This is where two (or more) singles are released separately, and are promoted as a "set" (often including CD1 or similar on the covers). As these are releases which are sold individually, they are not candidates for use with this relationship.
