Class of AdvancedRelationshipTypes for Musical Relationships
The AdvancedRelationshipTypes in this class indicate musical relationships between two artists, such as musical collaborations, or memberships of bands. It does not indicate personal relationships between members, such as members of the same family: for those, see PersonalAssociationRelationshipClass.
Relationship Types in this Class
Note that the dividing line between mere collaborations and full-on membership will always be rather fuzzy. Hopefully with experience we will develop some StyleGuidelines here.
Collaborated on: The CollaborationRelationshipType specifies that one artist collaborated on a project.
Is/was a member of: The MemberOfBandRelationshipType indicates that the first artist is or was a regular member of the second artist, which should be a group.
Is/was a supporting musician for: The SupportingMusicianRelationshipType indicates that the first artist did vocal or instrumental support for the other one.
Performs as: The PerformanceNameRelationshipType indicates that one artist is merely a stage name or alias for another: that the artists are in fact the same person.
Discussion
It's not possible to represent multiple legal names in the system (for example maiden names, Walter/Wendy Carlos), except by the rather inaccurate method of calling later legal names "performance names" of the birth name. This issue has been discussed in detail in the LinkingDifferentArtistNamesDiscussion which has finally led to a proposal on LinkingDifferentArtistNames.
There's also big overlap with the "normal" aliases we had before.
Tupac Shakur is an interesting case.
