More Duplicate Artists Suggestions Report

In the list of [WWW] Moderation Suggestions reports, one of the DuplicateSuggestions is the one for [WWW] More possibly duplicate artists.

The report is sorted by artist ArtistSortName, and lists pairs of artists with similar ArtistNames. In general, it seems to do a better job of recognizing similarity than the original DuplicateArtists report; however the original report compares both ArtistName and ArtistSortName, which catches some duplicates that this one misses. Both reports fail to look for discography overlap (at the release or track level) which is the best indicator of duplication.

A convenient feature of this report is the "Merge into this" links; these take you to a MergeArtists page; unfortunately, unlike the MergeReleases page where you can check release information and convert to merge in the other direction, this page has no additional information. Don't click on the "YES" button unless you have investigated the artists' discographies or other information to confirm that they are in fact duplicates.

This report is a suggestion, not a list of confirmed duplicates. Moderators should evaluate it as such, and should always check discographies (on MusicBrainz and elsewhere) and artist home pages to ensure that the "duplicate" artists truly refer to a single musical artist.

Nonetheless, this is a very useful report, and the accuracy rate is fairly good for an automated process. If you do find false positives (i.e. artists that are incorrectly reported as duplicates) please add them to the list of NotDuplicateArtists, and Wendell will try to suppress them from future reports, as well as using them to further improve the accuracy of the report.
