Description

This describes a situation where one label is reissuing, under its own name, (part of) another label's catalog. This can happen in at least three cases:

    Attributes

    “start date”

Date ranges should be used to further specify during what period of time a label owned the rights on another label's catalog. The start date should ideally be the date of the contract agreement between the two companies. For bootleg companies, or if the date of the agreement is hard/impossible to find, you may use the date of the first reissue made by the reissuing label.

    “end date”

Date ranges should be used to further specify during what period of time a label owned the rights on another label's catalog. The end date should ideally be the date of the end of the agreement, or, if that cannot be determined, the date of the last reissue.

    Guidelines

    1. Do not use this relation if a label buys another label and maintain its activities; this should instead be represented using Label Ownership Relationship Type.
    2. It might be very tricky to follow the trajectory of some catalogs, especially when changes in ownership (see LabelOwnershipRelationshipType) are involved. Try to remember that MusicBrainz is not a corporate database, so keep it simple.
