The musicbrainz-experts Mailing List

For discussions about the development of MusicBrainz for experienced users

Purpose

The MusicBrainz experts MailingList is a multi-purpose forum for experienced users to discuss the future and development of MusicBrainz and to constructively criticize current features and procedures. It is a place where those people that are already involved in a concrete project (like developing a new feature) can communicate without being disturbed by newcomers.

Description and Good Style

You are requested to post only if you really know those aspects of MusicBrainz that are relevant to the current thread. Just posting some cool ideas without deeper knowledge is really not welcome.

This does not mean that MusicBrainz' Experts are unkind. They just need a sphere to discuss and develop new features without having to explain things over and over again. The ExpertsMailingList is a public sphere, thus you are welcome to subscribe and lurk; you might even become an expert this way :-)

And, by the way, this attitude is advisable for experienced users as well: If you are not involved in a specific project, then a comment of yours can be as disturbing as that of a newbie. So, if you have something new, you'd better post it to the UsersMailingList. You can always move the discussion to mb-experts later.

If you are unsure, whether a post is appropriate to the ExpertsMailingList, please post it to the UsersMailingList, which is a multi-purpose mailng list for everybody, or ask the person that seems to be in charge of the project in question.

In contrast to the DevelopersMailingList, the subject of the ExpertsMailingList is not focussed on programming.

How do I know when I am an "expert"?

This has not much to do with how many things you know. There will never be a questionnaire :-). You can regard yourself an "expert" for something if you are involved in the development of some aspect of MusicBrainz, or if a developer asks you for help and assistance. Then you will very naturally move your discussion to musicbrainz-experts.
