Class of Advanced Relationships Types for Compilations
This AdvancedRelationshipClass groups the AdvancedRelationshipTypes that represent the creation of tracks or releases by a process called compilation. It represents all the musical creations that are neither alternative versions of a track/release as defined in AlternativeVersionRelationshipClass nor remixes as defined in RemixRelationshipClass.
A compilation can be a single track that was created by the concatenation of more than one source track or a new arrangement of some tracks on a newly created release. In both cases the music taken from the original sources might have been slightly edited without changing the overall sound of the music.
Advanced Relationship Types
Compiled Material (entity pairs between tracks and releases)
-
track is a compilation of tracks
Indicates that a track is a compilatin of several other tracks. This applies to one long track that contains multiple songs, one after the other, in which the audio material of the original tracks has not been altered. If the tracks are pitched or blended into each other, the DJ-Mix relationship type is more appropriate.
-
release is a DJ-mix of release
Indicates that all (or most of) the tracks of an release were mixed together from all (or most of) the tracks from another release to form a so called DJ-Mix. The tracks might have been altered by pitching (so that the tempo of one track matches the tempo of the following track) and fading (so that one track blends in smoothly with the other). If the tracks have been more substantially altered, the remix relationship type is more appropriate
track is a DJ-mix of tracks
Usually indicates that a track is a DJ-mix of another original source track. This applies to a various artists compilation (or 'Mixtape') in which the tracks are slightly changed by fading (so that one track blends in smoothly with the other) or pitching (so that the tempo of one track matches the tempo of the following track). In this case relate each single track of the 'Mixtape' to the original source track. This relationship can also be used in the special case of a 'Mixtape' in which all tracks were DJ-mixed together into one single long track. In this case relate this long track to all the original souce tracks tht it is composed of.
-
track is a medley of tracks
Indicates that a track is a medley of several other songs. This means that the orignial tracks were rearranged to create a new track in the form of a medley.
-
Role of the Compiling Artist (entity pairs containing artist)
-
release was compiled by artist
Indicates the person that selected the tracks and the sequence for a compilation for the release. If the tracks are pitched or blended into each other, it is more appropriate to credit this person as a Mix-DJ.
