Description

Advanced relationships used to assign engineering credits.

Guidelines

The presence of any relationship type from this class does not imply that the engineer also is then valid for a Engineer Position Relationship Type relationship with the label that released the track or release, nor are any of these relationship types implied by there being an engineer at the releasing label at the time it was recorded or released.

Image:Attention.png For assistance in determining the correct relationship types to use when describing compiling, DJ mixing, mastering, mixing, remastering, remixing, and sampling, please refer to Mix Terminology.

Relationship Types for this Class

            * Mastering Engineer Relationship Type

            This describes an engineer responsible for preparing and transferring recorded audio from a source containing the final mix to a master (the audio source from which all copies will then be manufactured).

              This describes an engineer responsible for using a mixing console to mix a recorded track into a single piece of music suitable for release.

                This links an entity to the artist who did the programming for electronic instruments used in the entity.

                  This describes an engineer responsible for comitting the performance to tape. This can be as complex as setting up the microphones, amplifiers, and recording devices, or as simple as pressing the 'record' button on a 4-track.

                    Also sometimes known as acoustical engineering, this describes an engineer responsible for ensuring that the sounds that the artists make reach the microphones sounding pleasant, without unwanted resonance or noise.

                      This links an entity to the Tonmeister who engineered an entity.

                        Examples

                        • The Offspring's release Americana has the credits:
                        Engineered by Bryan Carlstrom
                        Assistant Engineer: Annette Cisneros
                        In this case they both have the general Engineer Relationship Type. However, Annette Cisneros has the "additional" attribute as well.
                        Recording Assistants: Martin Schmidt, Mathias Röderer and Thorsten Bauer
                        Here the "additional" attribute is used to model Recording Assistants.
