Relationship Type "Amazon"

Link Phrases

  • release has Amazon ASIN URL

  • URL from Amazon belongs to release

Description

This relationship type can be used to link a MusicBrainz release to the equivalent entry in Amazon. This allows users to link to the Amazon pages to show the right cover art if MusicBrainz does not have the right ASIN link already. So these URLs are prefered over the AmazonMatching mechanism.

Note that whereas you are to enter the complete URL, the display of this AdvancedRelationshipType is customized such that it only displays the ASIN code. If you want to go to the Amazon page for this release, you have to click on the CoverArt or one of the links in the Amazon section.

There is a tutorial for HowToChangeCoverArt using this type.

This AdvancedRelationshipType for ReleaseUrlRelationship is part of the AffiliateRelationshipClass.

Relationship Attributes

None are appropriate.

Style

Enter URLs that point to any Amazon product page that contain an Amazon ASIN. The server will extract the ASIN from the URL and use it accordingly.

  • Amazon recently has switched their stores to use the same format for all domains.

  • Add only ASIN for the original release country. Many releases are listed not only in the Amazon shop from the country they originated from, but also at the other sites, marked as "[IMPORT]". It is preferred to enter the version of the amazon store which sells the original version, often the amazon store which is the nearest to the country of origin of the release artist, or at least the distribution of the release.

  • Do not edit the URL manually, just copy and paste the URL from your browser's URL bar (aka "address bar")

  • All ASINs are OK, but some are more OK The purpose of the Amazon relationship is to provide cover images, but also additional information for releases. Not every amazon product page has a usable official cover image, but Amazon also allows customers to upload a images for a product. Unfortunately the URLs of those so called customer images cannot be derived from the product URL as specified above. On amazon.com, all product covers that are not provided directly by amazon are labeled with "Customer image from <Custom Seller name>" ([WWW] see example). Other amazon shops might mark it differently. Before you add a relationship to such an ASIN, please make sure that no offical product page exists on another amazon domain, and that the page actually contains any information that is worth adding.

Examples

[WWW] Voices & Images has Amazon ASIN [WWW] B000005J5T.
