Nuestros Derechos in short

Dutch thrash metal band Nuestros Derechos (meaning Our Rights in Spanish) was founded in Utrecht, The Netherlands in 2000 by Jerry Derechos (guitar, lead vocals), Juan Guillermo (bass guitar, lead vocals) and Johnny Derechos (drums, nacking vocals). In 2006 Janet (ex-T.B.C.) replaced Jan-Willem.

Musical style and predominance
The power trio is firmly rooted with one foot in a tradition of thrash metal and an other in the hardcore punk scene. In a basic rock 'n roll lineup of guitar, drums and bass Nuestros Derechos deliver engaged and energetic thrash applying do-it-yourself (DIY) principles when it comes to making and distributing music.

Mixing predominant elements of hardcore punk and metal, their style of music is similar to international thrash icons like Slayer, Kreator, Exodus and DRI, or Dutch acts like Lunatics Without Skateboards Inc. (LWS), Flesh Made Sin and Legion of the Damned (previously known under the moniker of Occult).

Releases

"Struggling with the Dark"
On their latest release, "Struggling with the Dark", Nuestros Derechos take you on a trip through the dark realms of existence. Seven new songs, with struggle and darkness as thematic thread, were recorded at the Bunt Studios in Utrecht, The Netherlands under the guidance of well-known producer Menno Bakker (Sin Dios, Seein' Red, Makiladoras, Human Alert, etc).

Mastering duties were handled by the critically acclaimed Alan Douches at West West Side Music, who previously offered his services to Shadows Fall, Sick Of It All, Converge, From Autumn To Ashes, and Unearth among others.

"Split 'Em All"
The band's previous release, the split cd entitled "Split 'Em All", was the result of Nuestros Derechos teaming up with fellow thrashers De Waonzin (who disbanded in 2006). Both bands recorded four tracks each. This split release breathes the old-school feeling of the '80s all over, including the artwork and the album title, a reference to Metallica's classic 1983 album "Kill 'Em All".

"PAN Recording Session"
The band’s first studio recording, the "PAN Recording Session" was released in 2003. Containing four songs, the demo was recorded in one single day by studio engineer and producer Mario Vrooman. Theo Vogelaars (known from bands like Tröckener Kecks and De Snevo's) made a brave endeavour to mix all noise. Finally the recordings were mastered in a mere two hours by Manolo Honkoop (known from bands like Judgement Day, d’Upyoghurted and Warchitect).

Aptly titled "PAN Recording Session", the demo got critically acclaim from underground fanzines and mainstream press, including Holland's largest metal magazine Aardschok, who stated in issue 3 (March 2004): "This band from Utrecht sounds pretty original because of the mid-eighties sound when the word crossover did not leave a filthy taste yet. (...) The three tracks, including the beautiful song Het Wijnglas, promise good times for this crossover band."

The aforementioned song Het Wijnglas, meaning The Wine-glass in Dutch, was originally written by composer Dirk Witte in 1917/1918. The anti-war lyrics (dealing with the First World War) make it probably the first protest song in the history of Dutch pop music. Unfortunately the evergreen is still topical.

Compilations
Despite the short and cheap production, the "PAN Recording Session" helped Nuestros Derechos to gain multiple live shows and landed them on several compilation albums, including "Plankgas Punk" (2003), "Never Surrender, Never Give In" (2004), "Punx.nl Pleurop Plaat volume 2" (2004), "Metal Ostentation - volume 7" (2006), and "Esperanza : Dutch hardcore punk against the G8" (2007).

Nuestros Derechos live

Nuestros Derechos' energetic live performance have brought the band all over the country and abroad, including festivals like From Beyond Metal Fest, Plankgas Punk Festival, Utreg Punk Festival, Occultfest, Trashfest, Raise Your Fist en A Very Heavy X-Mosh festival.
