Monteiro, was born is São Paulo, Brazil. She relocated to England in the early 90’s. She formed the band Drugstore, with American drummer Mike Chylinski. Their 1st single Alive, released on their own label (Honey), was received by a wave of critical acclaim (Melody Maker Single of the Week), and propelled the band to sign a major deal with Go discs (Paul Weller – Portishead). Two years later the band released White Magic for Lovers (RoadRunner Records), and the follow-up, Songs for the Jet Set on Global Warming Records, yet again, to rave reviews. Monteiro and the band Drugstore mysteriously disappeared by 2003, returning with a sell-out gig at Camden Dingwalls in sept 2009. Soon after that, Monteiro announced a new line-up and is currently working on new material.
She publishes a blog - Anatomy - http://isabelmonteiro1.blogspot.com, where the creative process can be followed and her dramatic disappearance is told with candid humour.
